The client is a leading manufacturer of lighting products across the USA. They sell a wide range of lighting products to customers through their eCommerce store and physical stores. Moreover, they purchase lighting products from more than 300 light manufacturing companies and sell them through their online and offline presence.
They sell a comprehensive selection of more than 100K lighting products belonging to different categories such as Bath Collections, Chandelier Collections, Close-To-Ceiling Collections, Lamps & Shades, LED Retrofit Kits, and so on.
What were the challenges of the client?
The client used to manage 100K+ lighting products (that involve their own as well as vendors’ products) in Magento-based eCommerce platform and sell the products to the consumers through the same platform.
Inconsistent inflow of data from vendors
The client receives product information, inventory updates, and price updates from 300+ vendors. This data is available in different formats and excel files. Every vendor shares its own set of data. So, there was no standardization in the product, inventory, and price related information that the client receives. It results in inconsistent product data.
No centralized repository for data management
Earlier, the client used to manage product information in the excel file and also manage the entire product information management and life cycle manually through legacy systems. The information is very scattered and there is no single repository where all the data is placed.
Limitations of Magento Solution
To sell the products on the eCommerce platform, the client used to upload the data in the Magento solution. But, the solution was not competent enough to receive such a large volume of inconsistent data and distribute the consistent data on the online platform.
Poor data quality
Data inconsistency impacts the data quality. Eventually, when the inconsistent data is pushed to the eCommerce platform, it results in business loss as with incomplete and inaccurate product data consumers cannot make a buying decision.
The client wanted to deploy a Product Information Management (PIM) platform to manage all the product information, inventory updates, and price updates data in a single location.
They were also looking for an interface that allows them for new product creation, data enrichment, and consistent distribution of product information across multiple channels such as their existing Magento-based eCommerce store and leading marketplaces.

Credencys has developed a solution using Pimcore as backend technology. We utilized the Product Information Management (PIM) and Digital Asset Management (DAM) frameworks of Pimcore to manage different product data centrally and seamlessly.
Implementation of PIM allows the client to manage product information, inventory updates, and price updates in a centralized repository. Previously, this data came to the client in different files and formats.
PIM has simplified the data management, data enrichment, and data distribution processes for the client. The client can manage all the product information with extreme data consistency and distribute the product data on the eCommerce store and popular marketplaces.

Product Information Management (PIM)
The light manufacturer manages a wide range of lighting products that are manufactured by them and their vendors centrally and effectively. They manage the most crucial data such as product information, inventory updates, and price updates that are shared by 300+ vendors in the PIM, in a consistent way.
PIM works as a single source of truth for the product information and provides the required product data to other systems. Integration of the Product Information Management framework, it becomes easier for the client to manage the data of simple products, configurable products, and grouped products.
The client receives product information, inventory updates, and price updates from vendors in excel sheets and in an inconsistent form. To maintain data consistency and completeness, we have created and integrated data models that match the product, inventory, and pricing information that came from the vendors with the PIM data.
We have created and integrated separate automated mappers for new product information, inventory update, and pricing update/change for 300+ vendors. It maps incoming files from all the vendors with the existing data in Pimcore. We have developed and implemented hundreds of mappers for the client to improve data consistency and completeness.
We have provided the client with a profound understanding of creating the data mappers so they can create custom mappers as per the changing business needs.
We have integrated ERP, Custom Reporting Tool (SQL Server ), third-party marketplace plugin, and Magento eCommerce solution with Pimcore to manage different operations from a single platform. Pimcore pushes the data across all these systems.
Digital Asset Management (DAM)
Implemented Digital Asset Management to store and manage the media assets related to products such as images, videos, documents, graphics, etc. in a single location. They can manage the media assets in a structured format so that the required media files are easily searchable.
Product data enrichment workflow
Implemented workflows for product data enrichment in Pimcore. It helps the different teams of the light manufacturer perform data addition, data enrichment, and data approval activities to produce high-quality data.
Digital Asset Management workflow
Integrated workflows for digital assets to ensure all the products have high-resolution images, videos, and other media assets consistently.
We have set up the rules to make sure that the data stays cleansed. It ensures only high-quality product information is pushed on multiple online platforms.
Integration of the third-party marketplace plugin allows the client to distribute the data on different marketplaces by meeting the specific requirements of each platform.
